Cherry Bekaert is seeking a Risk Advisory Senior Associate (State & Local Gov't) – Internal Audit to join our Internal Audit practice in South Waltham, Massachusetts. This full-time role is ideal for an experienced professional who thrives on helping public-sector organizations strengthen controls, manage risk, and operate with greater accountability.

About the Role

As a Risk Advisory Senior Associate focused on State & Local Government, you will deliver internal audit and advisory engagements for governmental clients across South Waltham and the surrounding region. You will work alongside seasoned leaders to evaluate risk, examine internal controls, and offer recommendations that produce measurable improvement, all while building your career at one of the nation's most respected accounting and consulting firms.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and carry out internal audit engagements for state and local government entities.
• Evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, pinpointing gaps and opportunities to improve.
• Document findings clearly and craft practical, actionable recommendations for clients.
• Support risk assessments and advisory projects that help governmental organizations run efficiently and transparently.
• Coordinate with engagement teams and present results to client stakeholders.
• Guide junior team members and contribute to a culture of shared success.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in internal audit, risk advisory, or assurance services, ideally within a public-sector or governmental setting.
• Solid grasp of internal controls, risk management principles, and audit methodology.
• Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication abilities.
• Capacity to juggle competing priorities while collaborating effectively within a team.
• A relevant professional credential (such as CPA or CIA, or progress toward one) is a plus.
