Join a Sydney-based boutique construction firm as a remote Construction Estimator / Quantity Surveyor, based in the Philippines. This independent contractor role offers $1,800–$2,200 AUD per month and provides flexible scheduling aligned with Australian business hours (approximately 9 AM–5 PM Monday–Friday).
The Opportunity
As a core member of the estimating function, you'll take ownership of quantity takeoff, cost analysis, and pricing strategy for residential new builds and major renovations valued between $1.5M and $10M AUD. You'll collaborate with project managers, contract administrators, architects, and consultants to develop accurate cost forecasts that inform early-stage decisions and support transparent client communication. Your detail-focused approach and commercial insight will be central to the firm's reputation for precision and quality.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs from architectural, structural, and services drawings using structured documentation
- Build and maintain labor, material, and plant-hire estimates aligned with company templates and historical rates
- Prepare and distribute request-for-quote packages, scope clarifications, and technical queries to subcontractors and suppliers
- Analyze subcontractor quotations, reconcile scope differences, and prepare comparative assessments with recommendations
- Develop value-engineering and cost-reduction alternatives with transparent explanations of financial impact
- Produce comprehensive cost reporting including cost plans, summary estimates, contingency allowances, known exclusions, and commercial risk assessments
- Update and refine the company's pricing benchmarks, rate library, and estimating templates
- Deliver clear, well-reasoned cost summaries and analysis to support project team procurement decisions
What You Bring
- A minimum of five years' estimating experience on high-quality residential or commercial construction projects
- Demonstrated expertise with Cubit estimating software (required)
- Strong ability to work from detailed architectural, structural, and specification documentation
- Excellent grasp of commercial estimating principles, including scope identification, exclusions, risk assessment, and rate benchmarking
- Polished written communication; able to explain pricing logic and cost assumptions with clarity and confidence
- Comfort working remotely within Australian business hours (approximately 9 AM–5 PM Monday–Friday) with flexibility appropriate to independent contracting
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with Bluebeam, Planswift, or comparable tools is valued
