About the Role
The Ko Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join an NIH-funded research program investigating host–microbe interactions at the oral epithelial barrier. The position involves using periodontitis as a model to understand how excess iron resulting from chronic inflammation alters epithelial and stromal cell function, promoting various biological processes.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Conduct research on host–microbe interactions at the oral epithelial barrier
- Investigate the effects of excess iron on epithelial and stromal cell function in periodontitis models
- Analyze data using various experimental techniques
- Publish findings in scientific journals
- Collaborate with other researchers within the laboratory and across departments
Requirements
- A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Immunology, Microbiology, or related field
- Experience in immunology, microbiology, and/or oral biology research
- Strong background in molecular biology techniques
- Prior experience with periodontitis models is preferred but not required
- Excellent communication skills for presenting findings at conferences and seminars
- A commitment to scientific excellence and a passion for research
