HM Insurance Group, part of Highmark Health, is hiring a full-time Medical Stop Loss Underwriting Consultant in Springfield, Sangamon County, to drive disciplined underwriting across a defined block of stop loss business.
About the Role
As a Medical Stop Loss Underwriting Consultant, you will collaborate within a cross-functional team that supports highly visible and complex broker and Third-Party Administrator (TPA) relationships grouped into managed blocks. While you will engage directly with clients on occasion, your principal point of contact will be sales leadership. The position centers on overseeing a portfolio of stop loss accounts and performing case-level underwriting to meet and exceed established business objectives. This is an on-site role based in Springfield, Sangamon County.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage a designated block of medical stop loss business, balancing risk and profitability targets.
- Perform case-level underwriting decisions that align with overall block performance goals.
- Partner with a multi-disciplinary team supporting complex broker and TPA relationships organized into blocks.
- Coordinate primarily through sales leadership while handling select direct client interactions.
- Contribute underwriting expertise to highly visible, high-impact account relationships.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical stop loss underwriting or a closely related insurance discipline.
- Strong analytical and risk-evaluation skills applied at both the case and block level.
- Ability to thrive within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Effective communication skills for working alongside sales leadership, brokers, and TPA partners.
- Comfort managing complex, high-visibility relationships and competing priorities.
