About the Role

The McKinney Vento Liaison is a full-time, on-site professional role centered on safeguarding the educational rights of children and youth who qualify for support under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Working out of Leonardtown in St. Mary's County, the Liaison links families, schools, and community partners to spot obstacles early and clear the path to consistent learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify students and families who may be eligible for services under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and confirm their eligibility.
• Act as the central point of contact connecting the home, the school, and community resources.
• Locate and remove barriers that interfere with a student's enrollment, attendance, and academic advancement.
• Coordinate with school staff, families, and outside agencies to arrange the supports each student needs.
• Advocate for the educational stability and rights of eligible students throughout St. Mary's County.

Qualifications

• Professional experience supporting students and families, ideally within an educational, social services, or community outreach setting.
• Working knowledge of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, or the ability to learn and apply its requirements quickly.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills for collaborating across homes, schools, and community organizations.
• A problem-solving, student-centered approach to reducing barriers to learning.
• Availability for full-time, in-person work based in Leonardtown, St. Mary's County.
