About the Role
As Lighting Supervisor at Museum of Science, you'll oversee the technical and creative lighting operations that enhance visitor experiences across our diverse exhibition spaces. Your expertise will ensure that lighting systems support both the educational mission and the visual impact that define our institution.
What You'll Do
- Supervise and maintain all lighting equipment, fixtures, and systems throughout the museum's exhibit galleries and public spaces
- Collaborate with exhibit designers, curators, and technical teams to develop and implement lighting designs that engage visitors and highlight key educational content
- Troubleshoot and repair lighting systems, ensuring minimal downtime and consistent operational performance
- Manage lighting inventory, procurement, and budgeting for equipment and maintenance supplies
- Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures related to lighting systems and electrical work
- Lead and mentor lighting technicians and other staff members working on related projects
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to extend equipment life and ensure reliability
- Stay current with advances in lighting technology and recommend upgrades or improvements
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience supervising lighting systems, lighting design, or museum and exhibition lighting operations
- Strong technical knowledge of lighting fixtures, control systems, and electrical safety
- Demonstrated leadership ability and experience managing or mentoring technical staff
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with museum environments, science centers, or large public facilities is a strong advantage
- Communication skills that support effective collaboration with creative and technical teams
