Swim Instructor/Pool Lifeguard (As-Needed)

Join the City of Santa Monica as a part-time Swim Instructor and Pool Lifeguard on an as-needed basis, serving swimmers at our community pools in Santa Monica. This position combines water safety expertise with instructional responsibilities to support residents and visitors while maintaining aquatic facility operations.

You'll oversee swimmer safety, teach diverse aquatic classes, and partner with the Chief Pool Lifeguard to keep our pools running smoothly. What You'll Do

• Supervise swimmers and maintain active pool surveillance to ensure public safety
• Respond to aquatic emergencies and provide emergency care as needed
• Teach swimming, diving, water polo, and other aquatic skill classes
• Support the Chief Pool Lifeguard with daily pool operations and facility coordination
• Perform pool maintenance, equipment inspections, and water quality monitoring
• Enforce safety regulations and facility rules consistently

What We're Looking For

• Current lifeguard certification or demonstrated ability to obtain certification
• Proficiency in swimming and diving with water rescue capability
• Ability to teach swimming or aquatic safety to varied age groups
• CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to pursue training
• Reliable availability and flexibility for as-needed scheduling
• Strong interpersonal skills and comfort interacting with the public
• Commitment to safety and adherence to operational standards
