FlexGE Program Assistant/Academic Advisor

The FlexGE Program Assistant/Academic Advisor supports student success initiatives within the Flexible General Education (FlexGE) program at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah County. This full‑time position works closely with faculty, advisors, and students to enhance academic planning and program coordination.

About the Role

In this role you serve as a point of contact for students navigating the FlexGE curriculum, helping them select courses, understand requirements, and stay on track for graduation. You collaborate with academic departments to ensure course offerings align with program goals and assist in data collection that informs continuous improvement of the advising experience.

What You'll Do

• Provide one‑on‑one academic advising appointments for FlexGE participants, both in person and via virtual meetings.
• Maintain accurate student records in the university’s information system and generate reports on enrollment, progression, and outcomes.
• Coordinate workshops and informational sessions that clarify FlexGE policies, transfer credit processes, and graduation checks.
• Partner with faculty advisors to develop advising resources, FAQs, and quick‑reference guides.
• Monitor program communications, respond to student inquiries, and escalate complex cases to senior advisors when needed.
• Assist with the scheduling of FlexGE courses and help resolve scheduling conflicts that affect student plans.
• Contribute to assessment projects by collecting feedback and supporting the analysis of advising effectiveness.

What We're Looking For

• A bachelor’s degree in education, student services, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• Experience providing academic advising or student support in a higher‑education setting.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse student populations.
• Proficiency with student information systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft) and Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail when managing multiple student caseloads.
• Knowledge of general education requirements and degree audit processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also exercising independent judgment.
