Role Overview
As a Fleet Mechanic at US Foods, you'll be responsible for keeping our diesel-powered fleet in peak operating condition. Your work ensures all equipment meets Department of Transportation (DOT) standards and operates safely and efficiently. Working in a fast-paced logistics environment, you'll develop expertise in heavy-duty diesel systems while collaborating with senior technicians and contributing to our fleet's reliability.
What You'll Do
- Execute preventative maintenance schedules to DOT specifications on all fleet vehicles
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on diesel engines, transmissions, and related systems
- Service and repair specialized equipment including tractors, trailers, bobtails, and hydraulic lift gates
- Complete comprehensive inspections to identify potential problems before they impact operations
- Work collaboratively with senior technicians and supervisory staff to maintain service standards
- Document all maintenance and repair work in fleet management systems
Requirements
- Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or fleet maintenance technician
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements
- Technical proficiency with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components
- Ability to work independently and take direction effectively
- Physical capability to perform hands-on repair work and lift heavy components
- Reliability and commitment to a third shift schedule with consistent attendance
