Estimator, Underground

Guy F. Atkinson Construction is hiring an Estimator for Underground operations in Austin, Texas. This full-time position supports our heavy civil and underground construction projects across Texas.

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Estimator to join our underground and civil construction team. You'll develop detailed cost estimates, analyze project specifications, and provide the financial foundation our teams rely on to bid and execute complex infrastructure work safely and profitably.

What You'll Do

• Prepare comprehensive estimates for underground construction, civil projects, and related work
• Review bid documents, plans, and specifications to quantify labor, materials, equipment, and overhead costs
• Conduct site visits and assessments to inform accurate pricing
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to refine scope and cost data
• Maintain historical cost databases and update estimates based on market conditions and company experience
• Support bid strategy and value engineering discussions with clients and internal teams
• Manage estimate schedules and deliver proposals on deadline

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience estimating heavy civil, underground, or related construction work
• Strong knowledge of underground construction methods, equipment, and labor practices
• Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office tools
• Excellent ability to read and interpret construction plans and technical documents
• Solid math and analytical skills with attention to detail
• Clear communication and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
• High school diploma or equivalent; construction estimating certification a plus
