GE Vernova is hiring a Staff Software Engineer – Electricity Markets to help build, advance, and sustain a large-scale, high-availability Market Management System (MMS) for wholesale electricity operations across the United States (nationwide) (nationwide).
About the Role
As a Staff Software Engineer – Electricity Markets at GE Vernova, you will act as a technical lead and a trusted advisor to customers while contributing hands-on to a mission-critical platform. You will join a multidisciplinary group of 8–15 specialists spanning power systems, databases, software engineering, and optimization, helping shape requirements, high-level architecture, and dependable delivery within a secure, modern technology stack.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect modules and feature areas for Wholesale Electricity Market Management (MMS) applications.
- Drive design discussions, whiteboarding, and review sessions, providing technical leadership in an Agile setting and guiding 5–7 developers as needed.
- Scope work, estimate effort, and partner with the Project Manager on realistic timelines.
- Weigh technology choices through analysis, risk, and fit, ensuring scalable, maintainable solutions aligned to product standards.
- Design inter-module interfaces and own code quality, performance, and deliverables across the project lifecycle.
- Mentor teammates, document solutions, troubleshoot defects, and support complex customer implementations and production issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
- 8+ years in Market Management Systems (MMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), or a technical lead role in the electric utility sector.
- 6+ years working with or for an Independent System Operator (ISO), market participant, or wholesale market vendor.
- Solid grasp of MMS concepts including Unit Commitment and Economic Dispatch, plus power system applications and optimization techniques.
- Experience with Oracle RDBMS (PostgreSQL a plus), on-premises and cloud deployments, and DevOps practices such as GitOps and CI/CD.
- Hands-on use of Git, Maven, Jenkins, Artifactory, and Ansible; exposure to Kafka, Kubernetes, Java, Spring Boot, TypeScript/JavaScript, and REST APIs is welcome.

The U.S. pay range for this position is $151,800.00–$227,700.00, with a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% in certain areas and discretionary annual bonus eligibility.
