About This Position
The Director of State and Local Advocacy at Covenant House International is a pivotal role for an emerging mid-career policy leader. This position requires a blend of legislative and regulatory knowledge with practical, implementation-oriented skills to strengthen advocacy capabilities across domestic sites in the United States (nationwide) (nationwide). The director will develop tools, analyze policy landscapes, support advocacy campaigns, build partnerships, and translate policy opportunities into actionable strategies. They will serve as a trusted advisor and coach to site leaders.
Core Duties
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies to prevent and end youth homelessness and combat human trafficking
- Analyze policy landscapes and develop tools for effective advocacy campaigns
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with various stakeholders, including government officials, non-profits, and community organizations
- Navigate complex political environments and cultivate trust across diverse stakeholders
- Support site leaders in becoming more powerful advocates for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation

About the Company
Covenant House International has been serving and advocating for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation since 1972. Our mission is to end homelessness among these groups by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in 34 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.
