Director of Real Estate, Design, & Construction

Western Digital seeks an accomplished Director of Real Estate, Design, and Construction to lead our global real estate strategy and facility development initiatives from our San Jose headquarters. This is a full-time leadership position overseeing a diverse portfolio of specialized properties and construction projects that support manufacturing, research and development, office operations, warehousing, data centers, clean labs, industrial facilities, and executive spaces worldwide.

About the Role

As Director of Real Estate, Design, and Construction, you will manage end-to-end real estate programs spanning site selection, acquisition, design oversight, and construction delivery. You'll direct cross-functional teams to ensure our facilities meet operational requirements, compliance standards, and strategic business objectives across multiple property types and geographies.

What You'll Do

• Oversee global real estate acquisition and disposition strategies aligned with business growth and operational needs
• Direct architectural and engineering teams through facility design phases, ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards
• Manage capital budgets for construction and facility projects from conception through completion and occupancy
• Lead vendor selection, contract negotiation, and performance management for construction partners and design firms
• Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, operations, and executive leadership to translate space and infrastructure requirements into viable projects
• Develop project timelines and risk mitigation strategies for complex, multi-site construction initiatives
• Ensure all projects meet corporate governance, environmental, and regulatory compliance requirements

What We're Looking For

• Extensive experience managing large-scale real estate and construction programs, particularly portfolios encompassing multiple facility types
• Demonstrated leadership directing cross-functional teams in design, construction, and facility management
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, building design principles, and facility compliance requirements
• Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills
• Proficiency with project management and budget tracking systems
• Detail-oriented approach combined with strategic, big-picture thinking
• Ability to operate effectively in a global, matrixed organizational environment
