About the Role
YAI is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to work part-time at our Astoria, Queens location. In this position, you will provide direct, person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities—helping them build independence, access community opportunities, and achieve their personal goals. Your commitment to dignity and inclusion will directly shape the quality and direction of their lives.
What You'll Do
- Provide hands-on assistance with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household management
- Support community integration by helping individuals access employment, recreational activities, education, and social engagement
- Coach and reinforce independent living and adaptive skills through patient guidance and modeling
- Document support provided and track individual progress accurately and thoroughly
- Collaborate with supervisors, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate person-centered care plans
- Respond thoughtfully to behavioral, physical, and emotional needs with professionalism and compassion
- Uphold YAI's commitment to choice, autonomy, and community inclusion for every individual you support
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to meet background clearance requirements
- Flexibility to work part-time hours in a supportive role
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities and advancing their independence
- Physical capability to safely assist individuals with mobility and personal care needs
- Reliable transportation to our Astoria, Queens office location
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred; willingness to obtain if not currently held
