About the Role

As a Coder II, you'll perform high-complexity medical coding for inpatient and outpatient services. You'll translate clinical documentation into accurate diagnostic and procedural codes, ensuring compliance with current coding standards and healthcare regulations. This role is essential to maintaining data integrity, supporting clinical research initiatives, and enabling accurate reimbursement across our health system.

What You'll Do

  • Review and analyze patient medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes
  • Audit clinical documentation for completeness and accuracy, collaborating with physicians and clinical staff to clarify coding questions
  • Maintain strict compliance with federal regulations, payer requirements, and CommonSpirit Health coding policies and procedures
  • Identify and escalate complex or ambiguous coding scenarios to senior coding staff and compliance teams
  • Contribute to coding accuracy metrics and participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Stay current with evolving coding standards, healthcare regulations, and industry best practices through ongoing education

What We're Looking For

  • Current professional coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCS, or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical coding experience in a healthcare setting
  • Advanced proficiency with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare compliance, billing practices, and medical documentation requirements
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while managing high-volume caseloads
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with clinical and administrative teams
