Compass Group, North America is hiring a full-time Sous Chef I to join its culinary team in Jamestown, North Dakota — an opportunity to bring professional kitchen leadership to one of the country's most recognized foodservice organizations.

About the Role

As a Sous Chef I in Jamestown, ND, you'll work alongside the Executive Chef to keep kitchen operations running at a high standard. This is a hands-on leadership position that balances day-to-day cooking responsibilities with supervisory duties, food safety oversight, and a commitment to consistent culinary quality across every service period.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with the Executive Chef to coordinate and execute daily food production and service
  • Supervise, coach, and direct line cooks and prep staff during kitchen operations
  • Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to established recipes and presentation standards
  • Uphold food safety, sanitation, and HACCP protocols throughout all kitchen areas
  • Assist with menu development, recipe standardization, and seasonal adjustments
  • Manage inventory levels, assist with ordering, and monitor food cost and waste
  • Train new kitchen team members and support ongoing staff development
  • Maintain equipment, ensure a clean and organized workspace, and comply with health department regulations
  • Step into the lead role when the Executive Chef is unavailable, ensuring uninterrupted service quality

What We're Looking For

  • A culinary degree or equivalent professional kitchen experience
  • Prior supervisory or lead cook experience in a high-volume foodservice environment
  • Solid command of cooking techniques, knife skills, and diverse culinary methods
  • Working knowledge of food safety regulations; ServSafe certification preferred
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen setting
  • Strong organizational and communication skills across both staff and management
  • Demonstrated attention to portion control, plating consistency, and quality standards
