About the Role

As a Barge Readiness Mechanic with American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL), you help keep our dry hopper barge fleet dependable, efficient, and ready for service. Working out of the Port Allen / Baton Rouge area, you inspect, repair, and prepare barges so cargo can travel smoothly across the waterway system. It is a vital, hands-on position that directly supports the reliable transport of goods.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect dry hopper barges to confirm they are mechanically sound and cleared for operation.
• Diagnose, service, and repair components to maintain fleet reliability and uptime.
• Carry out preventive maintenance that reduces downtime and supports the steady flow of freight.
• Document inspections, repairs, and readiness status accurately.
• Follow safety standards and operating procedures while working on and around barges.

Qualifications

• Practical mechanical aptitude with experience inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment.
• Comfortable performing physical, hands-on work in an outdoor, waterfront marine setting.
• Strong attention to detail and a safety-first mindset.
• Ability to work reliably on-site in Port Allen, West Baton Rouge Parish, on a full-time hourly schedule.
