About the Role

Reporting to the Associate AD for Marketing and Branding, the Associate Director, Athletic Communications supports the public relations and publicity efforts behind East Tennessee State University's athletics program. This full-time, on-site position in Tennessee blends storytelling, media relations, and event coordination to raise the visibility of ETSU teams and student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with public relations and publicity initiatives across the university's athletics program.
• Produce ETSU Athletics and university publications.
• Develop community-focused public relations efforts that strengthen local engagement.
• Coordinate and manage athletic events.
• Write and distribute news releases covering teams, athletes, and program milestones.
• Create original creative content that promotes ETSU Athletics.
• Help oversee graduate assistants, interns, and other support staff.

Qualifications

• Background in athletic communications, sports information, public relations, or a closely related field.
• Strong writing skills, including experience preparing news releases and publications.
• Ability to produce engaging creative content across multiple formats.
• Experience handling event management in a fast-paced setting.
• Capacity to mentor and supervise graduate assistants and interns.
• A collaborative approach to working within a marketing and branding team.
