The Hartford is hiring an Actuarial Global Specialty Reserving professional for our Chicago office in the Illinois Medical District. This is a full-time role supporting the Global Specialty US Actuarial team as we build loss reserve models and deliver financial insights for specialty insurance lines.
About the Role
You'll work as an Associate Actuary in our Global Specialty division, developing reserve analyses and actuarial projections that inform underwriting and pricing strategy. Partnering with experienced actuaries and cross-functional teams, you'll apply statistical modeling techniques to specialty insurance challenges and prepare actuarial documentation that guides reserve adequacy decisions.
What You'll Do
- Build and validate loss reserve models using actuarial methodologies and historical experience data
- Conduct premium adequacy studies and loss trend analysis for specialty insurance products
- Develop reserve estimates and supporting actuarial memoranda for management and regulatory review
- Collaborate with underwriting, claims, and finance teams on reserve monitoring and projections
- Apply statistical analysis and actuarial techniques to evaluate reserve adequacy over time
- Prepare technical documentation translating complex actuarial work for non-technical audiences
- Monitor emerging experience and recommend reserve adjustments as needed
What We're Looking For
- Progress toward or completion of actuarial credentials (ASA, FSA, or equivalent examination track)
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or related quantitative field
- Proficiency with data analysis tools and statistical software
- Foundational knowledge of insurance reserving, underwriting, and actuarial practice standards
- Strong communication skills to explain technical analysis to business partners
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and project organization abilities
