Position Summary
Mercor is seeking a Computational Seismology & Geophysics Expert to join our team. This full-time, on-site position in Germany (nationwide) (nationwide) offers competitive compensation of $70–$85/hour.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Design challenging computational problems to evaluate AI capabilities in solving scientific tasks.
- Develop and test problems using specialized scientific software such as SPECFEM, ObsPy, and Pyrocko.
- Collaborate on AI model training, evaluation, and improvement in computational seismology.
- Independently refine problem designs based on feedback to ensure optimal challenge difficulty.
What You Bring
- A graduate-level degree (MS, PhD) or equivalent research experience in a relevant STEM field.
- Proven proficiency with at least one scientific software library such as SPECFEM, ObsPy, etc.
- Strong Python skills for writing problem setups and solution validators.
- The ability to work independently in a Linux/terminal environment.
- A commitment of 15–20 hours per week.
- Experience across multiple listed domains or tools is preferred.
- Familiarity with benchmark or evaluation design, scientific teaching, or exam/problem-set design is beneficial.
- Background in computational reproducibility and containerized environments is a plus.
