Computational Seismology Expert – PhD

Mercor · Germany

How to use this kit

Ground every answer in facts on this page and the original listing. We never invent Glassdoor-style reviews or salaries that are not in our data.

Interview prep

Be ready to walk through a past simulation or inversion, how you validate results, and how you would grade an AI answer on source characterization or waveform misfit—concise, exam-style explanations.

Fit summary

Strong fit if you hold a PhD-level computational seismology background and can teach models through structured feedback. Weaker fit if you want pure research headcount rather than expert annotation for AI systems.

Day in the role

As a Computational Seismology Expert (PhD) for Mercor, expect to package research-grade seismic knowledge for AI training: define problem sets, critique model outputs on wave propagation/inversion, write scoring rubrics, and clarify edge cases from field and numerical seismology.

Skills to emphasize

No cert family or priced resources in CERTS. Prioritize solid numerical seismology, Python/scientific computing, and the ability to explain failure modes of AI answers on geophysical tasks.

FAQ from this listing

Is this a traditional lab seismology job?

DATA frames Mercor as an AI hiring platform for experts who train models, not a seismic observatory employer.

Where is the role based?

Germany; remote is marked off (remote: 0).

What recent Mercor news should I know?

Press has covered rapid revenue growth and a confirmed security incident; treat headlines as context, not workplace guarantees.
