Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate school documentation while generating written reports and communications
  • Offer individual and group counseling to students dealing with school, home, or community adjustment issues, emphasizing early intervention
  • Support families in accessing community services that can help resolve school-related difficulties
  • Advocate and mediate for students in interactions with family members, school staff, and community partners
  • Collaborate and consult on student concerns while aligning action plans, with priority given to early problem identification
  • Engage community agencies to help remediate challenges that disrupt school adjustment
  • Partner with teachers and colleagues to assess student needs and invent tailored support strategies
  • Help families understand their children’s educational needs and the resources available at school
  • Assist parents in recognizing the problems their children face through group counseling, parent training, and community referrals

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work required; Master’s degree in Social Work preferred
  • Ability to secure the Tennessee credential that authorizes pupil personnel services as a social worker for grades K-12
  • Two or more years of professional experience preferred, with background in education and urban communities especially valued
  • Experience making referrals to public or private agencies and ensuring appropriate follow-up
  • Background serving as a liaison among school, family, and community resources
  • Experience supporting students with special needs
  • Experience with crisis management
  • Experience coordinating benefits through social and community organizations
  • Demonstrated commitment to Freedomprep’s educational mission, vision, and goals
  • Strong computer skills that include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Comfort with ambiguity paired with creative problem-solving ability
  • Strong interpersonal talents for building relationships and collaborating effectively
