Position Summary

The Legal Counsel position at UMB centers on delivering practical legal guidance while protecting company interests in Kansas City, Missouri. What You'll Do

• Advise business units on a variety of legal matters, contracts, and compliance considerations relevant to daily operations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements, policies, and other legal documents to support organizational goals.
• Research statutes, regulations, and case law to assess risk and recommend sound courses of action.
• Coordinate with external counsel when specialized support is required and manage related work product.
• Support internal training and awareness efforts so teams understand key legal requirements that affect their responsibilities.
• Monitor developments in the legal landscape that could impact the company and communicate relevant updates.

What We're Looking For

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with a state bar association.
• Prior experience providing legal counsel in a corporate, in-house, or related practice setting, ideally with exposure to commercial matters.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills paired with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers.
• Proven capacity to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment under time constraints, and maintain confidentiality.
• Collaborative mindset and comfort working with cross-functional colleagues in Kansas City, Missouri and elsewhere.
