GE Vernova is seeking a Lead Engineer – LOCA & Containment Analysis to join our nuclear safety engineering team in Wilmington, New Hanover County. This full-time position offers the opportunity to shape the safety analysis strategies for advanced and next-generation reactor designs.
About the Role
As a lead contributor to our LOCA (Loss-of-Coolant Accident), Containment, and Stability Analysis Team, you will drive thermal-hydraulic safety evaluations that protect nuclear plant operations and support critical design decisions. This role combines advanced engineering analysis with hands-on technical leadership, directing thermal-hydraulic modeling efforts for both existing Boiling Water Reactor installations and emerging reactor platforms including BWRX-300 and Natrium systems.
Responsibilities
- Conduct plant-level thermal-hydraulic safety analyses using two-phase flow modeling and computational techniques
- Support reload cycle engineering and new reactor design applications for BWR plants in operation and under development
- Develop and validate analysis models for containment integrity assessment and loss-of-coolant accident scenarios
- Lead technical reviews and mentor junior engineers on safety analysis methods and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including reactor design, operations, and regulatory affairs
- Prepare technical documentation and licensing submittals in support of NRC engagement
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline
- Demonstrated expertise in thermal-hydraulic analysis, reactor physics, or nuclear plant safety systems
- Strong background in two-phase flow dynamics and containment engineering analysis
- Experience supporting BWR plant operations, licensing, or design engineering
- Proven technical leadership and communication skills in safety-critical environments
- Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary, fast-moving engineering teams
