About the Role

As a Senior Associate Director of Institutional Research Funding, you'll play a key role in expanding and managing the university's research funding portfolio. This position works with senior leadership to oversee critical funding initiatives that fuel Penn's mission as a world-class research institution. You'll serve as a bridge between faculty, administrative departments, and external funding agencies to ensure smooth, compliant grant management and sustained funding growth.

What You'll Do

• Develop and implement institutional strategies to increase research funding competitiveness and agency relationships
• Advise faculty and departmental leadership on federal, state, and private funding opportunities aligned with research priorities
• Oversee compliance, budget management, and reporting on institutional research grants and awards
• Coordinate with finance, legal, and sponsored research teams to ensure adherence to regulations and university policies
• Analyze funding trends, institutional investment patterns, and research outcomes for strategic planning
• Build and maintain relationships with external funding bodies, research offices, and university stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• Master's degree in business administration, public administration, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• 7+ years of experience in research administration, institutional funding, grants management, or higher education finance
• Demonstrated expertise in federal grant compliance, budget oversight, and funding portfolio management
• Strong knowledge of research funding landscapes across multiple disciplines and agency priorities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to influence across departments
• Leadership experience managing complex, cross-functional initiatives and projects
