About the Role

This full‑time position directs the central kitchen’s daily operations, supervises culinary staff, and coordinates menu planning that meets federal and state nutrition guidelines. You will act as the liaison between the kitchen team and school sites, ensuring timely delivery, consistent quality, and compliance with all health and safety regulations.

What You'll Do

  • Manage all aspects of central kitchen workflow, including food preparation, cooking, storage, and sanitation.
  • Develop and adjust menus in accordance with USDA School Meal Patterns and district nutritional standards.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate kitchen personnel, fostering a collaborative and safe work environment.
  • Monitor inventory levels, place orders with approved vendors, and control food costs through effective portioning and waste reduction.
  • Maintain rigorous food safety protocols, oversee HACCP plans, and prepare for health inspections and audits.
  • Generate production reports, track meal counts, and communicate performance metrics to district leadership.
  • Coordinate logistics for meal distribution to individual schools, addressing special dietary needs and allergy accommodations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, adopting new equipment or processes that enhance efficiency and quality.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum of three years of experience in institutional or school food service, with at least one year in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Solid understanding of USDA child nutrition programs, meal pattern requirements, and commodity processing.
  • Proven ability to manage staff, schedule shifts, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Current ServSafe Manager certification or equivalent food safety credential.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with inventory management and point‑of‑sale systems.
  • Excellent communication abilities to interact effectively with school administrators, vendors, and team members.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a temperature‑controlled kitchen environment.
  • High school diploma or GED; post‑secondary education in hospitality, nutrition, or a related field is preferred.
