Business Operations Engineer

Apera AI Inc

Apera is an innovative, Vancouver-based company at the forefront of robotics, AI, and machine vision — recognized with the 2025 Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Leadership Award and the 2024 BC Tech “Company of the Year, Growth” award. We’re on a mission to redefine AI-driven robotic vision.

Apera AI helps manufacturers make their factories more flexible and productive. Robots enhanced with Apera’s software have 4D Vision — the ability to see and grasp objects with human-like capability. Challenging applications such as bin picking, sorting, packaging, and assembly are now open to fast, precise, and reliable automation. We work with the world’s leading automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.

Our portfolio spans Vue (our 4D Vision software), Forge (a no-code simulation and AI training studio where customers build, validate, and de-risk robotic cells before any hardware is bought), and VuePod, our new turnkey, productized bin-picking cell.

The Role
The gap between understanding a business problem and shipping a solution to it has collapsed. Current tools make it possible for someone with strong operational instincts to build real, functional internal tools that change how a company operates.
That’s the profile we’re hiring for.

As Business Operations Engineer, you’ll build the internal tools and automations that make Apera run more predictably as we scale. You’ll tackle manual workflows, broken handoffs, tools that don’t talk to each other in order to ship fixes that stick. Your work is measured not by what you launch, but by whether the team is still using and getting value from it months later. We expect you to ask questions, push back on requirements when something doesn’t add up, and surface better framings of the problem.

What You’ll Own
  1. Internal tool development. You leverage agentic software development to build the lightweight, functional tools the business needs — using no-code/low-code platforms, and scripting where it fits. You know which problems deserve which approach.
  2. Operational efficiency. You take on a backlog of known inefficiencies and ship fixes. You move fast, you close tickets, and what you build holds up.
  3. Sustained tool adoption. Anyone can launch a tool. The job is making sure it’s still actively used 90 days after rollout — and that the team is getting more value from it over time, not less.
  4. Cross-functional translation. You sit between Operations, Sales, Customer Success, and Engineering. You translate operational pain into buildable solutions and technical constraints back into business terms.
  5. Documentation and maintainability. What you build belongs to the company, not you. You document your work, build for handoff, and design for future growth.
How We’ll Measure Success
  1. Delivery predictability — projects you own land on the timelines you commit to.
  2. Rollout velocity — time from problem identified to solution in production.
  3. Sustained weekly active usage — tools you ship are still actively used 90 days post-launch and beyond.
What We’re Looking For
  1. Hands-on experience in Biz Ops, Engineering, or equivalent — you understand how a company like Apera actually runs.
  2. Demonstrated ability to ship functional tools using AI-assisted development, no-code/low-code, or lightweight automation. You’ve shipped, not just planned.
  3. A natural diagnostician — you see process inefficiency, trace it to its root, and address causes rather than symptoms.
  4. Self-directed and accountable — you manage your own priorities and flag blockers early.
  5. Genuine excitement about what’s possible — as a daily practice, not a concept.
Nice to Have
  1. Experience with HubSpot, Atlassian, MS365.
  2. Familiarity with AI coding tools and Git.
  3. Background in a startup or scale-up where resourcefulness was the differentiator.
Growth Path
This role is the entry point into a systems function at Apera. As you build trust through delivery, the mandate expands — from executing against a known backlog, to proactively identifying what should be built, to influencing the operational roadmap.

Why This Role
  • Direct visibility into every part of the business. A clear mandate to learn agentic software development in order to fix what’s broken. If you’ve always lived at the intersection of business and technology, this is where your skillset becomes a career.
  • The salary range for this role is $83,200 -$ 98,000 per year. Final compensation will be based on experience, skills, and qualifications, as well as internal equity and market alignment, to ensure a competitive and fair offer.
  • Generous stock option program
  • Company paid extended health, and dental coverage
  • Career growth in a fast-growing AI and robotics company
  • Exposure to global manufacturing leaders and innovative customer projects
