Join Akamai Technologies, Inc. as a Software Engineer II at our Harvard Square, Middlesex County location. This is a full-time, in-office position on the Mapping Engineering team, where you'll develop core traffic-steering systems that form the foundation of Akamai's Intelligent Platform.
About the Role
As a Software Engineer II in Mapping Engineering, you'll design and build the algorithms and infrastructure that intelligently direct internet traffic across one of the world's largest networks. Your work will directly impact how millions of users experience digital content, collaborating with a skilled engineering team to create the systems that power Akamai's content delivery and network optimization services.
What You'll Do
- Engineer and maintain algorithms that optimize traffic steering and routing decisions across Akamai's global infrastructure
- Develop scalable, high-performance backend systems that handle massive traffic volumes reliably
- Participate in system design, code reviews, and architectural discussions with your engineering team
- Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues in production systems
- Write clean, maintainable code that adheres to engineering best practices
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of mapping and traffic management technologies
What We're Looking For
- Several years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong grasp of algorithms, data structures, and system design fundamentals
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages used for backend or systems development
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on technical teams
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Experience with distributed systems, network optimization, or high-scale infrastructure preferred
