Join Thornton Fractional Township High School District 215 as an Assistant Band Director at T. F. North High School for the 2026-2027 school term. This part-time position offers the opportunity to mentor student musicians, support ensemble development, and contribute to meaningful arts programming in our school community.
About the Role
The Assistant Band Director works alongside the head band director to build and sustain a thriving instrumental music program. Reporting to the Principal through the Student Activities Director, you'll share responsibility for rehearsals, student instruction, ensemble preparation, and music events that engage our school community.
What You'll Do
- Co-lead band rehearsals and sectional practices, focusing on musicianship and performance excellence
- Provide instructional support to student musicians across ability levels
- Assist with concert preparation, including repertoire selection and performance logistics
- Contribute to the planning and execution of school performances and community music events
- Help foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages student participation in music
- Collaborate with the director and school staff to integrate music into school activities and events
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in music education or music performance, or equivalent professional experience
- Proficiency with at least one band instrument
- Knowledge of band literature, rehearsal techniques, and ensemble conducting
- Ability to work effectively with secondary students and coordinate with school staff
- Strong communication skills and flexibility in a collaborative school environment
- Valid state certification or eligibility for music teaching certification (preferred)
