About the Role
As a Service Writer, you'll manage the critical communication between our customers and our diesel repair technicians. This position—internally known as a Maintenance Planner—requires someone who speaks both the language of equipment owners and the technical depth of diesel professionals. You'll handle work orders, prioritize jobs, and ensure our team has everything needed to deliver quality repairs on time.
What You'll Do
- Document customer concerns and translate them into clear, actionable work orders for technicians
- Manage job scheduling and coordinate timing between customer deliveries and shop capacity
- Maintain accurate records of service history, parts usage, and labor hours
- Communicate repair progress and updates to customers with professionalism and clarity
- Collaborate with technicians to estimate timelines and scope for diesel repair jobs
- Support parts ordering and inventory coordination for diesel equipment service
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated knowledge of diesel engines, heavy equipment, or industrial machinery repair
- Strong written and verbal communication skills—the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
- Organizational skills and comfort managing multiple jobs simultaneously
- Attention to detail in documenting work and maintaining records
- Experience in a service advisor or service writer capacity (preferred but not required)
- Familiarity with service management software and computer systems
- A collaborative mindset and respect for the skilled trades
