UMHS is hiring a full-time Employment Specialist/Job Coach to join our team in West Ashville and serve the greater Buncombe County community. If you're passionate about helping people with disabilities achieve meaningful employment, we want to hear from you.
About the Role
As an Employment Specialist/Job Coach at UMHS, you'll be the bridge between job seekers with disabilities and meaningful career opportunities. You'll work directly with individuals to help them secure employment that aligns with their strengths, interests, and long-term goals while providing the support they need to succeed and advance in the workplace.
What You'll Do
- Assess clients' employment skills, interests, and support needs through one-on-one consultations
- Provide intensive job coaching and on-the-job training to help clients learn job tasks and workplace expectations
- Develop employment opportunities by building relationships with local employers in Buncombe County and surrounding areas
- Support clients in job applications, interviews, and workplace navigation
- Troubleshoot challenges that arise on the job and coach clients through problem-solving
- Monitor progress, adjust support strategies, and facilitate long-term job retention
- Maintain detailed case documentation and communicate updates with clients and supervisors
What We're Looking For
- Dedication to employment outcomes for people with disabilities
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication in one-on-one and group settings
- Ability to manage multiple clients and priorities while maintaining detailed records
- Creative approach to connecting job seekers with employers in the Asheville area
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel throughout West Ashville and surrounding Buncombe County
- High school diploma or GED; prior experience in employment services, rehabilitation, or case management strongly preferred
