Join Charleston County School District as an Assistant Softball Pitching Coach for the 2026-2027 school year at St. John's High School. This part-time, after-school coaching position offers the opportunity to develop young pitchers and contribute to a competitive spring sports program in the Charleston area.
About the Role
We're seeking a dedicated assistant coach to work with our varsity or JV softball pitching staff. In this position, you'll directly mentor student-athletes, refine pitching mechanics, and help build a strong foundation for our program's success during the spring season. This role reports to the head softball coach and works collaboratively to create a positive, competitive team environment.
What You'll Do
- Provide specialized instruction in pitching techniques, arm strength development, and game strategy
- Lead individual and small-group practice sessions focused on pitcher performance and skill progression
- Monitor athlete conditioning, injury prevention, and overall physical readiness
- Evaluate pitcher performance during practices and games, offering constructive feedback
- Support the head coach in managing team operations, equipment, and field preparation
- Maintain communication with athletes and families regarding progress and program expectations
- Model sportsmanship, commitment, and professionalism at all times
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience playing or coaching softball, with strong knowledge of pitching fundamentals
- Ability to teach and motivate high school student-athletes in a structured team environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to athlete safety, development, and compliance with athletic association rules
- Flexibility to attend practice sessions, competitions, and program events as scheduled
- High school diploma or equivalent; college athletic or coaching experience preferred
