24/25 SY Volunteer Coach

Las Cruces Public Schools is hiring a volunteer coach for the 2024–2025 school year (24/25 SY) based at Zia Middle School in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Join our athletic program as a full-time volunteer coach and develop young athletes while fostering academic success, character, and competitive excellence.

About the Role

This full-time volunteer coaching position offers a rewarding opportunity to lead a student athletic team at Zia Middle School. As a volunteer coach, you'll work within Las Cruces Public Schools' athletic framework to build skills, inspire student-athletes, and promote the values of teamwork and sportsmanship in a supportive school environment.

What You'll Do

• Direct daily team practices and competitions, emphasizing athletic skill development and fundamental coaching principles
• Create a safe, inclusive coaching environment that prioritizes student health, wellness, and academic success
• Model and teach teamwork, discipline, integrity, and respect both on and off the field
• Maintain full compliance with district athletic policies, student eligibility standards, and safety requirements
• Partner with school staff and families to ensure student-athlete success and wellbeing
• Track team progress and student development throughout the season

What We're Looking For

• Active coaching license or certification appropriate to the sport and position
• Fundamentals of Coaching Certificate (must be completed by application deadline)
• Current First Aid and Safety Certification
• Prior experience coaching or mentoring middle school–aged students
• Genuine commitment to inclusive, student-centered athletic development
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively within a school community
