Staff Information Security Engineer – Threat Defense & Automation

Proofpoint is searching for a Staff Information Security Engineer specializing in Threat Defense & Automation to join our team in Draper, Utah. In this full-time position, you'll help defend thousands of enterprises against sophisticated threats while building and improving automated security systems.

About the Role

As a Staff-level Information Security Engineer focused on threat defense and automation, you'll play a critical role in our security infrastructure. You'll design, develop, and deploy systems that detect and respond to threats across email, cloud, and collaboration environments. This is a technical leadership position where your expertise directly impacts how we protect our customers' data and AI workflows.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement threat detection systems that identify advanced malware, phishing, and targeted attacks
• Develop automation frameworks to streamline security operations and reduce response times
• Conduct threat research and analysis to stay ahead of emerging attack vectors
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to embed security controls into platform architecture
• Lead technical initiatives that enhance our defensive capabilities and reduce security operational burden
• Write and review code for security tools and systems
• Participate in incident response when critical threats are detected

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of experience in information security, threat detection, or related domains
• Strong software engineering background with proficiency in one or more programming languages
• Deep understanding of threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs)
• Experience building or improving security detection systems, SIEM platforms, or threat intelligence tools
• Familiarity with email security, cloud security, or collaboration platform security
• Demonstrated ability to design secure, scalable systems at the architectural level
• Excellent communication and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
