Xcel Energy is hiring a Director of Regulatory and Strategic Analysis for our Northern States Power Minnesota (NSPM) operations in Minneapolis. This is a full-time leadership role where you'll shape energy policy strategy and regulatory outcomes for one of the region's largest utilities.
About the Role
As Director of Regulatory and Strategic Analysis, you'll lead a team developing regulatory strategies, conducting policy analysis, and positioning NSPM for long-term competitive advantage. You'll work with state regulators, company leadership, and stakeholders to navigate the evolving energy landscape and drive strategic initiatives that support our mission to deliver reliable, affordable energy.
What You'll Do
- Direct regulatory strategy development and implementation across all aspects of utility operations
- Lead analysis of regulatory trends, rate structures, and policy changes affecting NSPM and the broader energy sector
- Manage relationships with Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and other regulatory bodies
- Develop strategic recommendations on rate recovery, cost allocation, and operational priorities
- Oversee preparation of regulatory filings, testimony, and supporting documentation
- Build and mentor a team of regulatory and strategic analysts
- Identify emerging opportunities and risks in the regulatory environment
- Collaborate with operations, finance, and legal teams to align business strategy with regulatory requirements
What We're Looking For
- Advanced degree in law, business, economics, engineering, or related field
- Minimum 10+ years of utility regulatory or energy policy experience
- Proven leadership experience managing regulatory, strategy, or policy teams
- Deep understanding of utility ratemaking, cost-of-service analysis, and regulatory processes
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Knowledge of FERC regulations, state utility commission proceedings, and energy policy
- Experience in strategic planning and long-term business development
- Ability to thrive in a complex, regulated environment with competing interests
