Travel ICU Registered Nurse

American Traveler is currently placing a full-time Travel ICU Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel assignment in Mason City, Iowa — an opportunity for experienced critical care RNs ready to bring their skills to a new community.

About the Role

This intensive care travel nursing position is based in Mason City, Mason County and runs on a nights schedule of three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours weekly), with a projected start date of July 12, 2026. As a Travel ICU RN with American Traveler, you'll step into a high-acuity environment where your critical care expertise directly impacts patient outcomes.

What You'll Do

• Provide direct, continuous nursing care to critically ill patients in an intensive care unit setting
• Monitor hemodynamic status, ventilator management, and real-time patient responses to treatment
• Administer IV medications, vasoactive drips, and complex pharmacological therapies per physician orders
• Collaborate with attending physicians, respiratory therapists, and the broader interdisciplinary care team
• Perform thorough assessments and maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record
• Respond to rapid deteriorations and code situations using ACLS protocols
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, care plans, and post-discharge expectations

What We're Looking For

• Active, unrestricted RN licensure (Iowa license or compact eligibility required)
• Minimum of 1–2 years of recent ICU or critical care bedside experience
• Demonstrated proficiency with invasive monitoring, arterial lines, and central venous catheters
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• CCRN certification is a plus but not required
• Ability to adapt quickly to new care environments, workflows, and team dynamics
• Strong clinical judgment and composure in high-pressure situations
