About the Role

As Senior Director of Applied Science at Oracle, you will define and drive the applied science strategy that powers Oracle Cloud Infrastructure — a platform built for high performance, enterprise-grade security, and measurable cost efficiency. This is a senior leadership position where deep technical expertise meets organizational influence, shaping how machine learning and data science capabilities are developed and deployed at scale.

What You'll Do

• Lead and grow a high-performing applied science organization, setting research direction and execution standards across multiple teams
• Partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to translate complex scientific work into customer-facing cloud capabilities
• Advance Oracle's applied machine learning and AI initiatives, including contributions to the autonomous database platform and OCI services
• Establish technical roadmaps and measurable goals aligned with Oracle's cloud infrastructure priorities
• Recruit, mentor, and retain senior scientists and research engineers, building a culture of rigor and innovation
• Represent applied science thinking in cross-functional planning, executive reviews, and external forums
• Drive adoption of best practices in model development, experimentation, and responsible AI deployment

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a closely related discipline
• Extensive experience leading applied science or machine learning teams in a technology or cloud computing environment
• Demonstrated track record of bringing ML/AI solutions from research through production at significant scale
• Strong background in areas such as deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, or large-scale data systems
• Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts to both scientific peers and non-technical executives
• Experience building and developing diverse, high-output research and engineering organizations
• Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment with competing priorities and evolving requirements
