Jacobs
Jacobs is hiring a full-time Ferries Terminal Design Manager – West Coast to join its Ports & Maritime team in International, King County, Washington, where you will lead multidisciplinary design efforts for ferry terminal projects across Washington State and the broader Pacific Northwest.
About the Role
As a senior member of Jacobs' Project Delivery Team in the Northwest Region of the Americas, the Ferries Terminal Design Manager serves as the primary technical bridge between clients and internal design disciplines. You will oversee the full lifecycle of terminal design deliverables, ensuring quality, schedule, and technical integrity across a dynamic portfolio of maritime infrastructure projects in WA State.
What You'll Do
- Direct and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams — civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and architectural — through all project phases from concept through construction documents.
- Serve as the day-to-day technical liaison with ferry system clients, public agencies, and subconsultants, managing design reviews and responding to client feedback.
- Develop and maintain design management plans, scope documents, and delivery schedules to keep projects on time and within budget.
- Perform and oversee quality control reviews of design packages, calculations, and specifications to meet applicable codes and client standards.
- Coordinate permitting requirements with regulatory bodies and support environmental review processes unique to marine terminal environments.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers on the project team.
- Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentations for Pacific Northwest maritime pursuits.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or related engineering discipline; PE licensure strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing design teams on marine, port, or ferry terminal infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with Washington State ferry systems, WSDOT standards, or similar public transportation agency requirements is a plus.
- Strong command of project controls, design scheduling, and earned-value tracking on multi-discipline AEC projects.
- Proven ability to build and sustain client relationships in a public-sector or transportation infrastructure context.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical content for non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency with design coordination platforms and document management systems commonly used in large infrastructure delivery.
