The Hartford is seeking a Home Office Underwriting Manager - Contract Surety to join our team in Saint Paul, Ramsey County. This is a full-time, in-office leadership opportunity for an experienced surety professional ready to shape underwriting strategy and guide high-impact decisions.

As a Home Office Underwriting Manager for Contract Surety at The Hartford, you will help steer the direction of our surety portfolio from a central home office function. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee contract surety underwriting practices within the home office team.
- Evaluate complex surety risks and provide guidance on account-level and portfolio-level decisions.
- Set and uphold underwriting standards, authority levels, and best practices across the line.
- Partner with field underwriters, agents, and internal stakeholders to support profitable growth.
- Mentor underwriting staff and help build technical depth across the team.
Qualifications
- Substantial experience in contract surety underwriting, ideally at a senior or executive underwriter level.
- Strong analytical judgment and the ability to assess construction and contractor risk.
- Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Willingness to work on-site in Saint Paul, Ramsey County, as this is not a remote position.
