About the Role
This is a full-time faculty position offering the opportunity to make an immediate impact on student learning and contribute to scholarly dialogue within the department. Visiting Assistant Professors at the University of South Carolina play a vital role in undergraduate and graduate education, bringing contemporary expertise to the classroom. The standard work schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
What You'll Do
- Teach and develop courses in your discipline for undergraduate and/or graduate students
- Prepare course materials, lectures, and assessments aligned with departmental curricula
- Evaluate student work and provide constructive feedback to support academic growth
- Hold regular office hours and provide academic advising to students
- Participate actively in department meetings and academic initiatives
- Contribute to the intellectual community through engagement with colleagues and students
What We're Looking For
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, with the degree awarded within the last three years (on or after September 1, 2022). We welcome applications from scholars across philosophy, history, political science, religious studies, English literature, and related fields in the humanities and social sciences.
- Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in philosophy, history, political science, religious studies, English literature, or closely related field
- Degree awarded between September 1, 2022 and present
- Strong commitment to effective teaching and student mentorship
- Ability to engage collaboratively with faculty and students
- Professional communication and organizational skills
