Highwire is hiring a Vice President, Copy to join its team in San Francisco, California — a senior creative leadership role for a storyteller who can turn B2B technology complexity into narratives that move people.
About the Role
As VP, Copy, you will own the verbal direction of Highwire's client portfolio, setting the editorial standards and narrative architecture that shape how leading technology brands speak to the world. You will be the agency's foremost authority on language — guiding copy teams, elevating client voice, and ensuring every word serves a strategic purpose. This is a full-time position based in San Francisco.
What You'll Do
- Define and steward narrative strategy across a portfolio of marketing and communications accounts, translating each client's business goals into clear, resonant brand voices
- Lead the copywriting discipline agency-wide: set quality standards, establish editorial processes, and mentor a team of writers at multiple levels
- Partner with strategy, creative, and account leadership to develop messaging frameworks, positioning platforms, and long-form content that differentiate clients in crowded technology markets
- Translate dense technical subject matter — product launches, enterprise software, emerging platforms — into compelling stories for executive, media, and consumer audiences
- Conduct copy reviews and provide substantive editorial feedback that raises the work rather than just correcting it
- Serve as a senior creative voice in new business pitches and client presentations, articulating the agency's approach to verbal identity and content strategy
- Collaborate with design and digital teams to ensure copy and visual language work in concert across all channels
What We're Looking For
- Proven track record leading a copy or editorial function inside a marketing, communications, or PR agency — ideally with a B2B technology client base
- Exceptional writing ability across formats: thought leadership, campaign copy, executive communications, web content, and media-facing materials
- Deep experience developing brand voice and messaging platforms from the ground up
- Strong leadership skills — you know how to develop writers, give direction under deadline pressure, and build a culture of craft
- Comfort working at the intersection of business strategy and creative execution, bridging the gap between client objectives and audience insight
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority accounts simultaneously without sacrificing quality
