Varsity Mens and Womens Cross Country Head Coach

Chatham County Public Schools is hiring a Varsity Men's and Women's Cross Country Head Coach to build and lead our competitive distance running program at Chatham Central High School. This full-time paid coaching position offers the opportunity to develop elite distance runners while making a lasting impact on student-athletes' lives.

About the Role

As head coach of our varsity cross country program, you'll oversee all aspects of our men's and women's teams, including training, competition, recruitment, and athlete development. You'll work with dedicated distance runners to prepare them for regional and state competition while emphasizing academic excellence and personal growth.

What You'll Do

• Create and implement comprehensive training programs tailored to male and female varsity cross country athletes at different skill levels
• Lead daily practice sessions focused on running form, aerobic capacity, pace management, and race tactics
• Identify, recruit, and develop distance running talent from our student body
• Organize and manage team participation in cross country meets, invitationals, and championship competitions
• Coordinate team transportation to off-campus competitions and events
• Monitor athlete health, conditioning progress, and injury prevention strategies
• Ensure compliance with district athletic policies, state regulations, and competitive standards
• Provide mentorship and guidance on athletic development, academic success, and character building

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated experience coaching varsity cross country or distance running programs
• Comprehensive knowledge of cross country training methodology and race preparation
• Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain one before the start of the season
• Bachelor's degree and relevant coaching certifications preferred
• CPR and First Aid certification (current or obtainable)
• Excellent interpersonal and motivational abilities
• Strong commitment to student-athlete welfare, safety, and academic achievement
• Knowledge of NCAA and state cross country rules and eligibility requirements
