What You'll Do
- Accompany choir, band, and orchestra rehearsals using a diverse repertoire that matches skill levels and curriculum goals.
- Provide supportive accompaniment during solo and ensemble performances, including concerts, festivals, and adjudicated events.
- Assist music directors in preparing students for auditions and recordings by offering flexible tempo adjustments and harmonic guidance.
- Maintain a professional and encouraging demeanor while working with students of varying abilities and backgrounds.
- Keep accompaniment materials organized, including sheet music, digital files, and equipment, ensuring readiness for each session.
- Participate in department meetings and contribute ideas for enhancing the VAPA program’s musical offerings.
What We're Looking For
- Proficiency in piano performance with strong sight‑reading skills across classical, contemporary, and theatrical styles.
- Experience accompanying choral or instrumental groups in an educational or community setting.
- Ability to follow a conductor’s cues and adapt quickly to changes in tempo, dynamics, or key.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a patient, encouraging approach when working with adolescent learners.
- Reliability and punctuality for scheduled rehearsals, performances, and occasional after‑school events.
- A background check clearance consistent with school district policies for employees working with minors.
