Superintendent – Water Treatment Plants

Story Construction is hiring a full-time Superintendent — Water Treatment Plants to lead on-site delivery of complex commercial and industrial water treatment projects across Ames and central Iowa.

About the Role

As a Superintendent — Water Treatment Plants based in Ames, Story County, you will own the day-to-day execution of water treatment facility construction from groundbreaking through commissioning. This is a full-time, on-site position with Story Construction — a General Contractor, Construction Manager, and Design-Builder serving the commercial and industrial markets of Ames and the surrounding central Iowa region. You will be the field leader who turns plans into finished, fully operational facilities while upholding a culture built around quality work and a genuinely positive jobsite.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate all field operations for water treatment plant construction projects.
• Manage crews, subcontractors, and trade partners to keep work on schedule and on budget.
• Enforce safety standards and maintain compliance across every phase of the build.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.
• Serve as the primary on-site contact, coordinating with project managers, clients, and design teams.
• Oversee quality control to ensure each facility meets specifications and performance requirements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a construction superintendent, ideally on water treatment, industrial, or heavy civil projects.
• Strong working knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, and field coordination.
• Ability to read and apply technical plans and specifications.
• Solid leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety and a collaborative, team-first jobsite culture.
• Willingness to work full-time on-site in Ames, central Iowa.
