About the Role
As a Substitute Food Service Cook/Baker (Class Code 7241), you will fill in at assigned school cafeterias whenever regular staff are absent, preparing and serving wholesome meals in volume. This full-time substitute position blends hands-on cooking and baking with kitchen organization, sanitation, and occasional guidance to fellow food service workers.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and bake a wide range of dishes in large quantities at the school site you are assigned to.
- Serve meals to students and staff in a timely, courteous manner.
- Lend a hand with additional food preparation tasks as instructed by kitchen supervisors.
- Keep work areas, equipment, and storage spaces clean, orderly, and sanitary at all times.
- Offer training and day-to-day work direction to other kitchen team members when needed.
Qualifications
- Practical experience preparing, cooking, and baking food in quantity, ideally in a school, cafeteria, or institutional setting.
- Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and proper kitchen hygiene.
- Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and direction from supervisory staff.
- Reliability and flexibility to report to assigned school sites on a substitute basis.
- Capacity to stand for extended periods and handle the physical demands of a busy kitchen.
