About the Role
As a Substitute Bus Attendant with Washington County Public Schools, you'll be part of the transportation team that ensures every student has a secure, supervised journey to and from school. This is a full-time substitute role available for the 2026–2027 school year, compensated at $18.96 per hour.
What You'll Do
- Supervise and support students during bus transportation, maintaining a safe and orderly environment
- Assist the bus driver in monitoring student behavior and addressing concerns in real time
- Help students board and exit the bus safely, ensuring proper seating and safety protocols
- Report safety incidents, behavioral issues, or equipment concerns to supervisory staff
- Support students with special needs, mobility assistance, or other accommodations as needed
- Follow all Washington County Public Schools transportation policies and safety procedures
What We're Looking For
- Willingness and ability to complete the Washington County Public Schools bus attendant pre-service training program
- Commitment to meeting all Maryland State Department of Education requirements for transportation personnel
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students of all ages
- Reliability and professionalism in a safety-critical environment
- Ability to work as part of a team supporting school transportation operations
