Stage Manager (At-Will)

Join the City of Torrance as a Stage Manager and lead the technical operations of the Cultural Arts Center Theater. This full-time position offers the opportunity to manage all technical aspects of theatrical productions while working with a dedicated team of artists and crew in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles County.

About This Position

As the Stage Manager at the City of Torrance's Cultural Arts Center Theater, you'll be the key technical leader ensuring every performance runs smoothly and safely. You'll coordinate all backstage operations, manage technical cues, oversee equipment, and maintain the highest standards of theatrical production. This role is located within the Department of General Services and plays a vital part in delivering quality cultural experiences to the community.

Core Duties

• Direct all technical operations during rehearsals and performances, including lighting, sound, and stage elements
• Create and execute detailed cueing scripts and run shows with precision and consistency
• Coordinate scene changes, set management, and prop placement throughout productions
• Manage communication between performers, crew, and technical operators
• Oversee stage safety protocols and ensure compliance with theater standards and best practices
• Maintain equipment logs, track inventory, and coordinate technical setup and breakdown
• Work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and technical rehearsals as needed

Requirements

• Proven experience as a stage manager or in theatrical production management
• Proficiency with theatrical lighting, sound, and production systems
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple technical elements simultaneously under pressure
• Strong attention to detail and unwavering commitment to safety
• Flexibility to work evening and weekend performances
