The Opportunity
As a Senior Process Engineer on the Eyepiece Process R&D team, you will lead the development and optimization of nanoimprint lithography (JFIL) processes critical to next-generation augmented reality displays. You will own process development from early-stage experimentation through transfer into manufacturing, ensuring scalability, repeatability, and yield performance.
This role is highly hands-on and sits at the intersection of R&D and production. You will work with advanced lithography equipment, develop and qualify new processes, and collaborate cross-functionally to bring cutting-edge light-field technology into production. Success in this role requires deep process expertise, strong experimental rigor, and the ability to translate R&D breakthroughs into robust manufacturing solutions.
Location: This position requires being fully on-site at our Austin, TX facility, to ensure seamless collaboration and hands-on support for daily operations. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.
What you’ll do
- Own the development and optimization of nanoimprint lithography (JFIL) processes for eyepiece fabrication
- Design and execute experiments (DOE) to improve process performance, yield, and defectivity
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced lithography and metrology equipment in a cleanroom environment
- Develop characterization methods and workflows to evaluate thickness, roughness, feature dimensions, transmission, and defectivity
- Analyze process data and build diagnostic frameworks (JMP, Python, or similar) to monitor process health and drive improvements
- Improve defect inspection and imaging systems through internal development and vendor collaboration
- Partner with manufacturing teams to transfer processes into high-volume production and support ramp
- Evaluate, select, and bring up new tools, materials, and process technologies
- Create and maintain process documentation, specifications, and technical reports
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, and external partners in a fast-paced environment
The experience you bring
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience in nanoimprint lithography, semiconductor processing, nanofabrication, or related field
- BS or MS in physics, chemistry, engineering, or related field, or PhD in a relevant discipline
- Experience owning process development and optimization in an R&D and/or manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience designing and executing DOEs and driving yield improvement
- Experience working with complex process and metrology equipment in a cleanroom environment
- Strong data analysis skills and experience with statistical tools (JMP, Python, or similar)
- Working knowledge of nanofabrication processes (lithography, etching, deposition, bonding, cleaning)
- Ability to translate experimental results into actionable process improvements
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
It’s exciting if you also have
- Direct experience with nanoimprint lithography (JFIL or NIL)
- Experience scaling processes from R&D to high-volume manufacturing
- Experience with optical or photonic device fabrication, including waveguides
- Familiarity with advanced metrology techniques (SEM, TEM, optical inspection, profilometry, ellipsometry)
- Experience with process control systems (FDC), automation, or data pipelines
- Background in semiconductor, optics, AR/VR, or advanced consumer hardware manufacturing
Additional Requirements
- Occasional travel required, including two trips to Plantation, FL per year
- Approximately 5% total travel for business needs
