About the Role
Tolland Public Schools is hiring a Special Education Teacher to join our middle school team, with a start date of August 25, 2026. You'll work in a supportive school culture where special educators and general education staff collaborate closely to ensure every student receives the individualized attention and instruction they need to succeed. This full-time position focuses on meeting students where they are and building their confidence as learners.
What You'll Do
- Deliver specialized instruction to middle school students with varying disabilities and learning differences
- Develop, implement, and regularly review individualized education plans (IEPs) with families and colleagues
- Create a classroom culture where students feel valued and are encouraged to reach their academic potential
- Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessment, adapting instruction accordingly
- Support students' social and emotional development alongside academic skill-building
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, administrators, and families to ensure cohesive student support
- Attend meetings, engage in professional development, and participate in school-wide initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Valid state teaching certificate in special education (or eligibility for certification)
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
- Experience teaching students with diverse disabilities and learning needs
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
- Genuine belief in inclusive education and commitment to student empowerment
- Ability to adapt instruction and remain flexible in a dynamic school environment
