Special Education Para-Educator

Walla Walla Public Schools is hiring a full-time Special Education Para-Educator to support students with disabilities across its schools in Walla Walla, Walla Walla County, Washington.

About the Role

As a Special Education Para-Educator, you will work alongside licensed special education teachers to deliver individualized instruction and create a safe, inclusive learning environment. This position plays a vital role in helping students meet the goals outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) while serving as a consistent, positive presence in their educational experience.

What You'll Do

• Provide direct instructional support to students with IEPs across core academic areas including reading, writing, and mathematics
• Assist certificated teachers in implementing individualized learning plans and classroom accommodations
• Support students' social-emotional development and model appropriate behavior and communication throughout the school day
• Help manage student transitions between activities, settings, and environments within the school
• Collect and record observational data on student progress to share with the instructional team
• Provide personal assistance and adaptive support as directed by the supervising teacher or IEP team
• Collaborate with general education staff to promote inclusion and participation across the school community

What We're Looking For

• Experience working with children or adolescents, particularly those with learning, behavioral, or developmental needs
• Familiarity with IEP processes, special education terminology, or school-based support programs is a plus
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with students, families, and staff
• Patience, dependability, and a genuine commitment to student success
• Ability to follow detailed instructional plans and take direction from certified educators
• Must meet Washington State paraprofessional qualification requirements (high school diploma or equivalent at minimum; some college or passing score on state-approved assessment may be required)
